Framework Finished

This weekend I completed all the framing for the middle and upper levels. The joist and risers are all in place.

Above is the Tallahassee / Cottondale side of the layout. The middle level (Cottondale) sticks out over Chattahoochee yard on the lower level, while the upper level (Tallahassee) runs along the back.

In this view looking toward the Chattahoochee wye, Tallahassee is to the right along the back upper level, while Pensacola is to the left. In the middle (front) level, Cottondale is to the right and Milton is to the left. The eastbound main from Cottondale down to Chattahoochee sneaks underneath the upper level around the back.

It's all ready now for the plywood subroadbed and upper helix pieces to complete all the benchwork. After that I'll go back to laying track to complete the mainline. Time to order some more track!

Jon, haven't seen this in a while but looks like things are coming along. Are you going to be able to do scenery work on that lower level after putting on the upper level? Seems it might be easier to go ahead and weather and ballast all that track down there before putting those upper plywood pieces in place. Also, are you going to do lighting so you can see the lower level? They have a lot of simple lighting fixtures you can use on the underside of the second level to provide natural looking lighting. All looks like fun!

I'm going to put some low-profile flourescent lights underneath the middle level to light the lower. as far as scenery, it will be a hassle, but I'm only going to do scenery on the front four tracks. The staging tracks won't really be "on display".
